England, 1988 – Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government is about to pass a law stigmatising gays and lesbians, forcing Jean, a PE teacher, to live a double life. As pressure mounts from all sides, the arrival of a new girl at school who threatens to expose her challenges Jean’s already fragilized life balance. Caught between her public persona and private sphere, Jean is pushed to extreme lengths to save both her job and her integrity.
This deeply intimate tale is the debut feature from Georgia Oakley, who with Blue Jean paints a compassionate and sharp portrait of an insidious oppression.
