New Shorts: Deracination
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Inabitável / Unliveable, dir. Matheus Farias & Enock Carvalho, Brazil 2021, 20 min.

These character-led shorts investigate the embodied experience of displacement in relation to migration and queer identities. Encompassing the multi-generational population of a village fleeing Nepal during the Civil War, to the search for a missing daughter in Brazil through a sci-fi lens, this eclectic selection explores the tension between identities and spaces.

Women defy the injustice of power structures, and displacement and decolonial discourse emerge in Siebert’s Fatherland; the story of the grandson of a colonial official from Togo fighting for German citizenship. Featuring emerging filmmakers Gustavo Gamero (Dirt), and Razan Madhoon (Go Home).
Programme:

Dirt, dir. Gustavo Gamero, Mexico 2021, 20 min.
KALAM, dir. Prabin Kumar Rawat, Nepal 2021, 18 min.
Go Home, dir. Razan Madhoon, UK 2021, 14 min.
Fatherland, dir. Moritz Siebert, 2021, 22 min.
Inabitável / Unliveable, dir. Matheus Farias & Enock Carvalho, Brazil 2021, 20 min.
