Julie Béna, Anna & the Jester in Window of Opportunity, 2019

A screening of recent works from artists Julie Béna, Patrick Staff and Nora Turato.

Julie Béna’s computer-animated Anna & the Jester in Window of Opportunity (2019) explores an enigmatic landscape of the future. The Jester of the film’s title navigates this sci-fi terrain, encountering a host of unusual characters and engaging in surreal conversations that alternate between the real and unreal.

Loosely based on Heinrich von Kleist's nineteenth-century play of the same name, Patrick Staff’s The Prince of Homberg (2019) centres queer and trans identities, as narrator Johanna Hedva assumes the role of Von Kleist's prince in a series of nocturnal turns.

Nora Turato’s typographic videos expand from her live performances. Her extend orations are captured with audio, while her words appear writ large on screen – our language systems are reconfigured, collaged and juxtaposed in new and surprising phraseologies.
