LONDON PREMIERE
When The Phone Rang + Q&A
Institute of Contemporary Arts
When The Phone Rang (Kada je zazvonio telefon), dir. Iva Radivojević, Serbia / United States 2024, Serbian with English subtitles, 73 mins.

On a Friday morning in spring of 1992, eleven-year-old Lana (Ilincic) receives a phone call informing her about a death in the family. It’s a call and a moment that imprints itself upon her forever, separating her life into before and after its arrival, amplified by and in sync with the fracturing of her country—of Yugoslavian history and identity.

A creative investigation into remembrance and the creation of personal and collective myths, Radivojević draws upon her own past to craft an profoundly moving and evocative exploration of memory and its fragmentary nature.

The London Premiere on 6 June is followed by a Q&A with Iva Radivojević.
