Opus Zero, Dir. Daniel Graham, Mexico / Germany 2017, 84 min., English and Spanish with English subtitles
After receiving news that his estranged father has died in a remote Mexican village, American composer Paul sets out to settle his affairs. Searching through his father’s belongings, Paul comes across a photograph of a young woman, who he becomes determined to find. Using a prototype ‘real-time’ translation device invented by his father, Paul ambles through Mexico’s Pueblo Mágicos, asking bemused locals for the whereabouts of the woman.
This debut feature from Daniel Graham is a dreamlike enquiry into the strange nature of memory.
