ICA is closed from the 30 May – 3 June inclusive.
Four months after his director’s edit of Heaven Without Earth premiered at the ICA, Italian director Giovanni Maderna returns with an extraordinary new, meditative feature – filmed in a single day by Robbie Ryan, the acclaimed director of photography on such films as Wuthering Heights, American Honey and The Favourite.
Rome, September 2020. The middle of the pandemic. A talkative, opinionated writer (Lino Musella) walks through the streets of Rome – and as he does so, he engages with the people he meets along the way. Masks on, masks off. Handshakes avoided – but embracing when the moment demands it. The Walk is inspired by Robert Walser’s extraordinary novella, published in 1917 – but this is very much a feature rooted in the here and now, a unique attempt to seize the crisis of the times through the lightness of the simplest of pleasures.
This UK Premiere is followed by a Q&A with the film’s director Giovanni Maderna, hosted by film writer Manuela Lazic.
More screenings from Friday 8 April.
