Je t’aime moi non plus
Institute of Contemporary Arts
A couple dance, embracing, their faces almost touching
Je t’aime moi non plus, dir. Serge Gainsbourg, France 1976, 90 min., French with English subtitles

Johnny, a waitress, works and lives in a truckstop, where she’s lonely and longs for love. She develops a crush on the garbage truck driver Krassky, although her sleazy boss Boris warns her that he’s gay.

Jane Birkin and Joe D’Alessandro star in French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg’s idiosyncratic directorial debut which takes its title from one of his most famous songs and was praised at the time of its release by François Truffaut who famously said ‘Don't bother going to see my film, see Gainsbourg’s. That is a work of art.’
