Undine, dir. Christian Petzold, Germany / France 2020, 90 min., German with English subtitles, 12

Following the completion of his Love in the Time of Oppressive Systems thematic trilogy with Transit, Christian Petzold embarked upon a new trilogy of films this time inspired by both German mythology and the elements.

Undine marks the first part of this new thematic trilogy (soon to be followed by Petzold’s new film Afire), with Petzold evocatively reimagining the Germany myth of the water nymph. Reuniting once again with actors Paula Beer and Franz Rogowski, Undine is a captivating lovers’ fable that elegantly combines the supernatural with a lush romanticism.
