Rituals & Practices: Exploring Gender Identity Today, Hodan Omar Elmi, UK 2021, 15 min.

This audio piece delves into the everyday rituals that shape our experiences of gender identity today. Rites of passages and rituals often mark our transition into our experience of gender and our place in the social world. Gender is often reinforced by virtue of everyday practices; as we negotiate public space through our actions and behaviours. Weaving the stories and the reflections of interviewees as they meditate on their own relationship with gender identity and their process of becoming themselves authentically. Exploring the myriad of ways in which they have cultivated meaningful rituals and practices: dance, art and spirituality. Thereupon, expanding the possibilities that could emerge beyond the binarism of gender.
