albion, refreshed, Dan Guthrie, UK 2019, 2 min. 16 sec.

A montage of digitally scanned Ankara fabrics printed in the patriotic colours of the Union Jack, a poem constructed for the flag’s Wikipedia page, footage shot around the tourist hotspots of Margate Beach and central London, and an ominously reworked version of Rule Britannia create an audio-visual statement that questions whether traditional British iconography can be used to represent a modern multicultural nation that has been shaped and redefined by immigration.

Shown at Current Transmissions 2020.
