Who’s going to stop them? Certainly not themselves.
In Veni Vidi Vici, the ultra-wealthy have reached the final frontier of privilege: getting away with murder. Directed by Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann, this pitch-black satire pulls back the velvet curtain on a grotesquely rich family that takes "hunting for sport" to a horrifying new level. And the craziest part? It doesn’t feel that implausible.
Produced by Austria’s maestro of moral discomfort, Ulrich Seidl, Veni Vidi Vici drips with poisonous elegance. Cinematographer Gerald Kerkletz captures the twisted tranquility of wealth, where even murder is framed in stunning, painterly compositions. The Maynard family’s world is one of cold opulence, where everything — from their immaculately curated home to their deadly hobbies — seems disturbingly serene.
Opening with a chilling quote from Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead — “The point is, who will stop me?” — the film takes aim at the unchecked hubris of the privileged. It’s a biting indictment of power without consequence, served with a wink, a smirk, and a whole lot of blood.
Veni Vidi Vici World Premiered at Sundance; an irreverent, cynical masterpiece that blends biting social commentary with a glossy, ice-cold aesthetic.
This London premiere screening is followed by a Q&A with directors Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann.
