ICA is closed from the 30 May – 3 June inclusive.
Coinciding with Black History Month, the ICA partners with Reclaim The Frame and The New Black Film Collective to present a preview screening of Mati Diop's latest film, Dahomey.
From Reclaim The Frame alumni Mati Diop (Atlantics), Dahomey is a poetic and immersive work of art that delves into real perspectives on far-reaching issues surrounding appropriation, self- determination and restitution. Set in November 2021, the documentary charts 26 royal treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey that are due to leave Paris and return to their country of origin: the present-day Republic of Benin.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with filmmaker and poet, Be Manzini and Black History Studies co-founder and The New Black Film Collective (TNBFC) member, Charmaine Simpson.
Please note that film will be screened with descriptive subtitles and post-screening conversation will be live captioned.
