This youth-focused reading group will be facilitated by K Bailey Obazee, Founder and Director of PRIM, a platform for storytelling which also produces OKHA, a monthly queer & Black book club. K will lead participants through a set of reading exercises and discussions focused on M. NourbeSe Philip’s collection She Tries Her Tongue, Her Silence Softly Breaks.
This workshop is open to participants aged 18 – 25. Participants are encouraged to read the collection in advance, but it isn’t required. Copies will be available for use at the event.
K Bailey Obazee is Founder and Director of PRIM. K is also a curator, consultant, and researcher whose focus is on storytelling and, in particular, ensuring visibility, availability, and accessibility of storytelling by people of Black ancestry. She has so far collaborated with Aesop, British Vogue, and AKO Caine Prize, worked as a researcher for Arts Council England, and been featured in The New York Times and Harper’s Bazaar. She has had guest appearances with Resident Advisor, Apollo Theatre, and gal-dem. Born a Nigerian and raised in East London, building for and with her Queer & Black community in mind is numero uno for K.
