On the occasion of Aria Dean’s exhibition Abattoir, the ICA hosts a panel discussion in response to the work, currently installed in the ICA’s lower gallery. Featuring writer and critical theorist Che Gossett, artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley and other guests, the talk will extrapolate from the themes and complexities contained within Dean’s work.

As bodies, citizens and actors in the global flow, we act and are acted upon. Crucially together, we ask: How can we exist in structures that are failing?

In this talk followed by a Q&A, Joy James will address writing as political protest and agency, and how all of her work addresses crises in US abolition, feminism, anti-Blackness, academic "radical" vanguards and state violence.
