Tsai and Lee have collaborated on the Walker series since 2012. In this film, Lee, dressed in a red robe, relives the seventeen-year pilgrimage of Xuanzang, the seventh-century Buddhist monk. Lee and Anong’s enchanting presence illuminates Tsai’s painterly shots of present-day Washington DC. The filmmaker’s vital new work once again reaffirms the power of attention, meditation and silence, while transcending different temporal boundaries.
