Point and Line to Plane, dir. Sofia Bohdanowicz, Canada 2020, 19 min.

Audrey Benac encounters the work of a once world-famous violinist, explores the letters of her great-grandmother and comes to terms with the loss of a close friend, in these three remarkable films by filmmaker Sofia Bohdanowicz.

Veslemøy's Song is an essaistic account of Audrey Benac's discovery and investigation of a recording by a a once world-famous violinist named Kathleen Parlow. Filmed in beautiful monochrome 16mm, Benac finds herself confronted by both the incomprehensible beauty of Parlow's work and the immovability of institutional bureaucracy in this at turns poetic and playfully absurdist short.

Bohdanowicz's third feature MS Slavic 7, co-directed with Deragh Campbell, finds Audrey exploring the letters shared between her great-grandmother Zofia and Polish poet Jozef Wittlin. However, Audrey's attempts to navigate her families past and her relationship to it soon raises a storm, as she finds herself beset by familial pressure and institutional indifference.

Confronted by the sudden death of a close friend, Audrey searches for meaning in the music of Mozart and sustenance in the writing of Kandinsky. Inspired by Joan Didion's A Year of Magical Thinking, Point and Line to Plane is a profoundly moving and spontaneous exploration of connection and grief.
