Set in a working-class Los Angeles neighbourhood still reeling from decades of guns and gang violence in a forgotten corner of Venice Beach, a struggling single mum tries to steer her teenage son Freddy away from Solo, a veteran gangster who has become a father figure to him. On his 17th birthday, Freddy is given a .38-caliber pistol by Solo and ordered to attack Solo’s old rival Boxer, a rehabilitated gangster. Will Freddy fulfill the test or “die like a man” with a gun in his hand?
