Remembering Every Night
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Remembering Every Night, dir. Yui Kiyohara, Japan 2023, 116 min., Japanese with English subtitles. U

Remembering Every Night is Yui Kiyohara's follow-up to her debut feature, Our House, her graduation film after studying under Kiyoshi Kurosawa. In this film, Kiyohara continues her exploration of our relationships with the built environment, guiding us through the Tokyo suburb of Tama New Town as she follows the lives of three women of different ages whose paths converge and intersect.

Exquisitely shot by Yukiko Iioka (Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy). The film premiered at Berlin Film Festival in 2023 and captures the quiet beauty in everyday moments and the gentle nostalgia of memories that shape our lives. Yui Kiyohara is undoubtedly a rising talent in independent Japanese cinema, and this title will resonate with fans of filmmakers such as Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Hirokazu Kore-eda, and Hong Sang-soo, as well as admirers of Wim Wenders' Perfect Days.
