Sediments (Sedimentos)
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Sediments, dir. Adrián Silvestre, Spain 2021, 89 min., Spanish with English subtitles

Director Adrián Silvestre joins us to introduce his joyful and moving film about the close-knit kinship shared by members of Barcelona’s trans community.

Lena, a trans woman living in Barcelona, decides to celebrate her birthday in her rural hometown in the province of León and invites a group of friends, fellow members of the I-Vaginarium collective, to travel with her for the weekend. So begins a road movie with a
difference, as these six disparate trans women find a place to articulate their hopes, fears and experiences.

Capturing the honesty of their conversations with humour and empathy in a rural setting that lends the film a weekend-in-the-country feel, Silvestre observes the dynamics and tensions within the group and the women’s individual personalities and layers, offering a space to consider how they each relate to the land – navigating the challenges of the present and preparing for whatever the future might bring.

Sediments is screening as part of Catalan Cinema Now! which runs until 29 May 2022.
