A young employee in a UK dead letter office reads a mangled treatise from an author who claims to be Mott, an angel from the future, sent to earth on a holy mission. On splattered, crumpled pages, Mott tells his story: he receives messages from an ominous, unknown entity via cryptic phone calls, but this much is certain: Mott must do three things before the next Sabbath, when the world will end. He is to: find the saint – he does not know that he is holy; find the sacrificial lamb and offer its blood for the sacrament; and write a scroll and record in it all that he sees and experiences on Earth.
His gritty, violent journey takes Mott from the UK to Romania and back, so thoroughly disillusioning him on the way he wishes to renounce his immortality in hopes of becoming human. Is Mott telling the truth about his identity and his quest? It is now up to the postal worker to get Mott’s to its intended destination. Moody, dark and atmospheric, boasting an all-original soundtrack, Universe25 – a musical drama in the director’s words – shows the human side of divinity.
The screening will be followed by an in-person Q&A with filmmaker Richard Melkonian hosted by Kira Adibekov.
