Prior to the New Year, Zhili’s textile workshops, usually bustling with young workers, are deserted; only those unable to travel home remain. Shot over five years and embodying his uncompromising ethics of representation, the final episode of Wang’s Youth trilogy portrays the lives of China’s young generation at work in the factories and beyond. The result is a potent form of political resistance and alternative history-making.
