Senyawa + Vanishing
Institute of Contemporary Arts

Following the announcement of their new album Vajranala (out on The State51 Conspiracy in June), Indonesian duo Senyawa, known to be one of the most intense and electrifying live acts in existence, perform a rare live show at the ICA.

Senyawa produce experimental practices by exploring tribal, primitive sounds with industrial music in the most powerful way. By weaving folkloric moods with various shades of modern genre hybrids, Senyawa has been navigating unexplored musical terrain for more than a decade.

Their sound is comprised of Rully Shabara’s deft extended vocal explorations punctuating the frenetic sounds of instrument builder, Wukir Suryadi’s modern-primitive instrumentation.

They have collaborated and performed with many notable musicians such as Stephen O`Malley, Robert AA Lowe, Otomo Yosihide, Rabih Beaini, Damo Suzuki, Justin Vernon, Oren Ambarchi, and many others. In 2012, filmmaker Vincent Moon made a film about them entitled "Calling the New Gods"

Supporting Senyawa is Vanishing.

Vanishing is the unique creative project of Gareth Smith, a working class time-served engineer turned artistic world builder who has traded in his toolbox for the means to write evocative music and resonant lyrics. Their new album Shelter of the Opaque was released earlier this year on State51 Conspiracy.

Presented in association with Baba Yaga’s Hut and Supersonic Festival.
