With the success of Eika Katappa television funding came Schroeter’s way, and he was able to make four films in one year. One of which, Der Bomberpilot, was made for the ZDF (Germany’s Channel 2 at the time) with filmmaker Daniel Schmid as assistant director, and is his only comedy. Again enlisting his cinema’s anchoring alchemical structure of three women to parody Nazi variety shows and the cultural legacies of Fascist Germany, in sly, uneasy operetta style.
