Schroeter’s first feature Eika Katappa (which he misappropriated from the Greek to mean 'scattered images'), was self-financed, and unfolds like a fevered collage of opera and cinematic dream, its compositions equally classical as avant-garde. The film's trajectory is associative, as performers move, lip-syncing tragically, in drag, through industrial and domestic spaces. What unites these sequences are Schroeter’s obsessions: love and death. “Life is very precious – even right now.”
