“Bored to death studying film in Munich,” a 22-year-old Werner Schroeter travelled to attend the 1967 Experimental Film Festival (EXPRMNTL) in Knokke-Le-Zoute, Belgium. There he encountered the work of Gregory Markopoulos and Andy Warhol, and met Rosa von Praunheim, a lifelong friend, for the first time. After the experience he began making his first films proper on 8mm, on a camera he had before used to film his holidaying in Italy with his mother.

This second screening compiles many early short works by Schroeter, presenting his attention to gestural cinema, myth, portrait, and art history through improvised adaptation.
